The Queer Beach at Folkestone at UCA Project Space & Gallery
August 2024
The Queer Beach project is an ongoing research about queer male identity and marginal spaces, in particular, the seaside. The project has sprung from the PhD thesis "The Dead-Zone & the Architecture of Transgression" [TU Delft 2018] and the project Interweaving Spaces. The project observes the connections between spatial qualities, identity, ecology, and well-being, as well as the informal uses of natural or designed places. The project which is still under development surveys dozens of "blue spaces" (beaches) which officially or often unofficial are used by gay and queer communities for recreation - from socializing, partying and cruising.
The exhibition was the columination of a short artist residency at UCA Project Space & Gallery, Folkestone UK 2024, Supported by Arts Council England.
